ABOUT ME
a quick biography...
I [Eden Longson b.1994] am a composer of orchestral, chamber, and film music based in London.
I am also a drummer of jazz, musical theatre, and weddings [is that a genre?] whilst also arranging, orchestrating, conducting, and podcasting also here in London.
I obtained a masters composition at the Royal Northern College of music, studying with Adam Gorb, Andy Scott, Gary Carpenter, and Laura Bowler.
I was born in Stoke-On-Trent [big up staffordshire oatcakes] and from an early age I realised that music was a great passion of mine, especially when all my teenage band mates wanted to play video games whereas I wanted us to practice.
I am also a prolific drummer and have performed in a lot of musical theatre, including the Hope Mill Theatre's 2020 tour of Mame, as well as their 2019 production of new musical The Astonishing Times of Timothy Cratchit.
I have also played in various productions with the Liverpool Empire Youth Theatre, with the Arden Theatre School, and with the Hammond Theatre School.
I have also worked with many other bands and artists, including the A.P. Stefans Quintet [a Liverpool-based quintet performing the compositions of band leader and Iceland native Arnar Petur Stefansson], as well as the Danny Miller Big Band, Tori Cross, Ciaran Algar [recording drums for his 2015 solo album 'The Final Waltz'], and Stoke-based Progressive Rock outfit Final Conflict [recording kit on their 2019 album 'Rise of the Artisan'].
As a conductor I will be working with the Saxophone Orchestra Manchester on their upcoming premiere of a new work I have created for them.
Whilst at University I had the pleasure of founding and conducting the Stage and Screen Orchestra. I also led both the Concert Band and Big Band, as well as the pit band for the 2015 LUST production of Little Women as its Musical Director.
I love arranging. Taking other tunes and making them your own is such a fun and important part of the musical landscape.
For the love of the game I have arranged pieces for the Danny Miller Big Band, and my own scratch orchestra the Retro-Modern Omniphonic, as well as the University of Liverpool Large Ensembles: the Stage and Screen Orchestra, Concert Band, University Singers, and Big Band.
I try to regularly upload videos to YouTube, usually of my compositions or arrangements. Sometimes I upload [hopefully] informative videos about music theory and other arts and culture things.
I also have a podcast called BIG BOy BIGGER DREAMS where I chronicle my [mis]adventures here in London as a creative.
